Hello, you’ve found the home of Tom Ortega on the web. I started programming in the 8th grade with Basic on an Apple II (don’t recall if it was c or e, as it was the school’s). In high school, I gave into my creative side more than my technical side. I made art and wrote fiction more than I programmed a computer. I went to the University of Puget Sound for a year and a half, studying English-Creative Writing and Computer Science. I made great friends in that short time and still have a love for the Pacific Northwest to this day.
After college, I started work and somehow landed in accounting. After a few years, I got back on track and started programming again. I completely automated the small office I was in, thus saving them from being cut by their biggest customer. Since then, I’ve worked with large corporations like Walt Disney Company, American Express, Bank of America, eBay as well as a wonderful stint at Workday, Inc. I’ve done a lot of consulting as well as full time work.
I’m married to a wonderful woman and have 2 boys that keep me busy. I’m a spiritual kinda guy and believe that being a good person is something we should all strive for.
If you’re looking for help on a Flex project, head over to my Flex Consulting page to see if we can work together.
If want to learn Flex, go read some of my articles on my Writings page or watch the recorded sessions on my Trainings page.
I’ll also be adding a Code page where I’ll share some code and a Tutorials page that will attempt to redefine what a tutorial is.
